Grant Activity:Conduct research on EU affairs or U.S.-EU relations. Preference will be given to projects focusing on current topics of interest in the U.S. and the EU. Projects must require the grantee's presence in one or more of the member states of the EU. Candidates are responsible for arranging their own placement. Awards are for a minimum of two months and a maximum period of four months.
Additional Qualifications:Several years of experience beyond the Ph.D. are required. Professionals (decision-makers, policy-makers, individuals in industry, media and politics) with relevant experience are also encouraged to apply.
Language:Candidates will need language proficiency for the country where they will be located. Interpreters are generally not provided.
Locations:Applicants must arrange affiliation and include letter of invitation.
Length of Grant: Two months to four months
Starting Date:Grants must occur between September 2012 and June 2013

II. STUDENTS

Please indicate “European Union” as the country in which you wish to study on the application.

Language: English may be sufficient for some projects. However, some knowledge of the host country(ies) language(s) will be needed for daily interaction. Depending on location, proficiency may be necessary. Applicants to Euro Master’s programs will need language proficiency for at least two countries.

Grant period: 9 months. The exact start date will depend on the country(ies) of affiliation. Dates for orientation will be supplied by the Fulbright Commission or U.S. Embassy in the country of affiliation.

Candidate profile: Consideration will be given to candidates with any clearly defined project on EU affairs or U.S.-EU relations. Projects are tenable at any of the EU institutions, including those located outside of Belgium, or at academic institutions in any of the Member States of the European Union. Young professionals, i.e., individuals outside of academia, are encouraged to apply; candidates must have two years of professional experience beyond the bachelor’s degree. Preference will be given to candidates wishing to carry out their projects in two different Member States of the EU.

Factors affecting eligibility: U.S. citizens currently residing in the EU are ineligible for consideration.
